Lichfield District City of Sanctuary is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation

The organisation was entered onto the Register of Charities on the 7th June 2021 with the Registered Charity Number 1194691

 

The objects of the CIO are

  1. To relieve the needs of refugees and asylum seekers resident in Lichfield by providing a network, services and support; and
  2. The promotion of equality and diversity for the public benefit by: promoting activities to foster understanding between people from diverse backgrounds including promoting activities to foster understanding between the general public, refugees and asylum seekers.

We are a membership charity open to anyone with connections with the District of Lichfield and subscribing to the core principles of the organisation as summarised in the Birmingham Charter:

  1. All asylum seekers, refugees and migrants should be treated with dignity and respect.
  2. A fair and effective process to decide whether people need protection should be in place. 3.      No one should be locked up indefinitely.
  3. No one should be left sick or destitute in our society.
  4. We should welcome the stranger and help them to integrate.

We are full members of City of Sanctuary UK. We are also members of Support Staffordshire and associate members of The Staffordshire Council of Voluntary Youth Services working towards full membership.

The organisation is governed by a Board of Trustees and managed by an Action Group of members. A Response Team of volunteers welcomes and supports new arrivals in the district. The Team Leaders work in cooperation with Staffordshire County Council Families and Communities, Refugee Action and Spring Housing Association.
